چکیده

Over the last two decades, there has been an increasing awareness of, and interest in, the use of spatial moment techniques to provide insight into a range of biological and ecological processes. Models that incorporate spatial moments can be viewed as extensions of mean-field models. These mean-field models often consist of systems of classical ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations, whose derivation, at some point, hinges on the simplifying assumption that individuals in the underlying stochastic process encounter each other at a rate that is proportional to the average abundance of individuals. This assumption has several implications, the most striking of which is that mean-field models essentially neglect any impact of the spatial structure of individuals in the system. Moment dynamics models extend traditional mean-field descriptions by accounting for the dynamics of pairs, triples and higher n-tuples of individuals. This means that moment dynamics models can, to some extent, account for how the spatial structure affects the dynamics of the system in question. Previous applications of moment dynamics models have focused on several application areas, such as: ecological dynamics (Bolker and Pacala 1997; Law et al. 2003; Lewis and Pacala 2000); epidemics (Keeling et al. 1997; Sharkey 2008); surface chemistry reactions (Mai et al. 1993, 1994); herding behaviour (Levin 1994); and clustering of organisms (Young et al. 2001). Modelling of Crack Growth Using a New Fracture Criteria Based Peridynamics

Peridynamics (PD) is a nonlocal continuum theory based on integro-differential equations without spatial derivatives. The elongation fracture criterion is implicitly incorporated in the PD theory, and fracture is a natural outcome of the simulation. On the other hand, a new fracture criterion based on the crack opening displacement combined with peridynamic (PD-COD) is proposed. When the relati...

Properties of Spatial Cox Process Models

Probabilistic properties of Cox processes of relevance for statistical modeling and inference are studied. Particularly, we study the most important classes of Cox processes, including log Gaussian Cox processes, shot noise Cox processes, and permanent Cox processes. We consider moment properties and point process operations such as thinning, displacements, and superpositioning. We also discuss...

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS AND FINANCE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND Moment Restriction-based Econometric Methods: An Overview

Moment restriction-based econometric modelling is a broad class which includes the parametric, semiparametric and nonparametric approaches. Moments and conditional moments themselves are nonparametric quantities. If a model is specified in part up to some finite dimensional parameters, this will provide semiparametric estimates or tests. If we use the score to construct moment restrictions to e...

Spatial statistics for lattice points on the sphere I‎: ‎Individual results

‎We study the spatial distribution of point sets on the sphere obtained from the representation of a large integer as a sum of three integer squares‎. ‎We examine several statistics of these point sets‎, ‎such as the electrostatic potential‎, ‎Ripley's function‎, ‎the variance of the number of points in random spherical caps‎, ‎and the covering radius‎. ‎Some of the results are conditional on t...

A Spatial-Dependence Continuous-Time Model for Regional Unemployment Change in Germany

This paper analyzes patterns of regional labour market development in Germany over the period 2000-2003 by means of a spatial-dependence continuous-time model. (Spatial) panel data are routinely modelled in discrete time. However, there are compelling arguments for continuous time modelling of (spatial) panel data. Particularly, most social processes evolve in continuous time such that analysis...
